Overview

Balloons are used by various agencies around the world to take atmospheric measurements. There are multiple kinds of balloons, including tethered balloons, zero-pressure balloons, and surface-pressure balloons. Depending on the type of balloon, they can reach heights of over 100,000 feet. Balloons are typically equipped with small instruments, such as radiosondes.
